Special Needs Tutoring Lanark County FAQs
This isn’t going to be some generic guide; in fact, it’s tailored to specific areas that may already exist around me. If you’ve lived in my area long enough, chances are great that there’s probably something happening locally or regionally for people like mine.
If not... well then, let’s just move ahead here anyway, shall we?
What happens once someone does discover that little child who lacks support, attention, or simply wants an extra hand helping him or her catch up their peers?
There’s no quick answer to this question, but many of us would agree that there should always be options available in place to provide what our community deems appropriate accommodations — whether those are in terms of physical space, technology, supports, tools, education programs, employment opportunities, or anything else.
I hope to offer a series of guides for communities across Ontario that will help bring awareness to things such as educational choices, health and wellness services, housing assistance and more.
Each section has different topics, which include the following:
• Resources & Support Services: Wherever possible, there should be local, provincial, regional, national services and resources readily made available to families, children, youth, adults living with disabilities and individuals affected by autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disability, developmental delay, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and other neurological impairments.
• Employment / Work Opportunity Opportunities: Not every student with Special Educational Planning requires direct employment, but many are unable to perform typical daily activity without having proper training and guidance.
We offer a comprehensive package which include: 1.) Academic support 2.) Behavior management 3.) Social skills 4.) Life skill development 5.) Individualized instruction in the home setting. All of these components contribute to our unique approach that helps families achieve success together in educating their children in ways they could only dream possible.
If you’d rather skip to specific locations, we suggest heading straight to Newmarket ON, Ottawa OH, Orillia ON, Perth PA, Portage la Prairie MB or Vancouver BC. But first... what does the term “special needs” mean? According to Wikipedia’s online glossary, it refers to people who experience disabilities due to developmental delay caused by genetics, brain injury or disease; mental illnesses affecting cognition and behaviour; sensory impairments resulting in difficulty performing daily functions; or intellectual disability (ID). These differences affect everything from academic ability to life expectancy, and may be obvious or subtle. As a result, special educators face varied challenges every day. They must ensure students receive appropriate services regardless of whether they present with observable conditions or simply show signs of impairment.

Special education services are provided in schools across Canada through programs like Early Childhood Education and Childcare Services, School Based Programs, Home Visits, Individualized Educational Plans (IEP), and other types of support services. Some provinces offer additional supports such as early intervention or autism specific programs.
What does this mean to me? As parents of children who receive these services it is crucial to understand some facts and figures related to special ed.
Here are five tips for parents who receive information about their child’s program, and the impact they could have on their family. These tips include:
1) Be informed about the services available to your student(s). Find out where you can get more information about the type of service your school offers.
2) Understand that these services are offered to children of all ages and not just those identified with disabilities. If this is news to you then take advantage of any opportunities available to learn more about the service, including visiting the centre yourself.
3) Learn to ask questions. Ask about the types of classes being taught, the curriculum used and whether or not your child receives individual attention from his/her teacher. Also, try to find out if your child participates in any extracurricular activities and how many hours per week he spends at the facility.
4) Make sure your student knows what his or her IEP is, as well as any changes made to your child’s service since the last meeting.
5) Keep records of everything, from attendance logs to notes taken during meetings.
6 ) Understand that not every parent is willing to work towards improving their child’s educational outcomes. If you feel overwhelmed with trying to meet the demands of the system, seek assistance from professionals. A qualified professional should be able to provide insight and guidance on navigating the special education landscape.
A lot of people get nervous when thinking about taking on something like teaching children who are in need of extra assistance. When it comes down to finding the most appropriate teacher, there are 3 main options. Each choice differs depending on the type of child, age etc but I would say that 1 of these choices makes sense more generally than the other 2.
What’s the difference?
1.) Teaching kids through regular school classes
2.) Hiring private/in home schooling tutors
3.) Using online special needs education programs via computers
Which Method Is Most Appropriate For My Child And Family?
This ultimately depends on every family situation; however, overall this article outlines some key things to consider when making decisions regarding different methods available for your specific purpose. As always, feel free to reach out to me personally via email anytime for additional info or questions about any topics covered. If you’re having trouble deciding, here are my thoughts on each approach briefly outlined below in order of preference.
Regular Classroom Setting
If your child is showing signs of needing more support then going back to class may seem reasonable initially since you’ll be able to see what he/she does while being monitored by others during the sessions themselves. Even though kids do learn better in small groups, sometimes we forget about everything else going on around us...not only forgetting what we’ve learned, but also losing interest and focus when left to the mercy of the system. Plus children find school boring anyway; I personally hated mine until high school came along.
We offer programs for learners aged 3 to 18 years old who are eligible for special education services under Section 12 of the Board Act. We provide instruction through regular classes for children who are mainstreamed into the general curriculum; and specialized classes for those whose needs exceed the scope of regular classroom activities. Our teachers work closely together to ensure every child receives individualized attention, including accommodations for learning difficulties, physical handicaps, emotional disturbances, sensory processing issues, autism spectrum disorders, speech/language delays, developmental delays, intellectual disabilities, behavioral issues and other health problems. Caledonia Regional Centre Incorporated
In addition to the specialized programming offered by LRCI, all students enrolled receive support through the regular educational program, which includes: academic support, counselling for behaviour management, health care, mental wellness counselling, transition planning and other supports. Students in need of additional support may be identified early by school staff, parents and community professionals. The support provided to these individuals helps improve outcomes across the board by addressing specific areas of need in order to maximize student potential. LRCI offers a wide range of therapeutic interventions for both adults and youth.
For more than 30 years the Caledonia Region has worked collaboratively with schools, agencies, families, communities, business and government partners.

Who Should Adopt TutorOne’s Tutoring Methodology?
Every parent knows that the average public school education system has its faults, but few know that there are alternatives. Every year, parents become educated more about the effectiveness of individualizing children’s education. They understand that learning styles and learning strategies vary greatly among students and that students require additional focus and encouragement to excel, especially in subjects such as math, science, and reading. Students learn differently than adults; children absorb knowledge faster and retain it longer than adults can; and they’re less prone to procrastination. TutorOne’s comprehensive approach teaches kids to think positively, and teaches students when they don’t perform up to par.
Testimonial By A Parent Like You
"My son recently turned 15, and started taking Advanced Placement exams. He was doing quite poorly in Spanish II and English III, having scored only a 2 and 3 respectively. With one week left before he needed to take the AP test, I decided to enroll him in TutorOne Private Tutoring. His teacher had told me that he was a bright kid, but just didn’t put forth the effort required to excel. My son came home every day telling me about the amazing learning experience he was having with TutorOne. He did score a 4 on his Spanish II test, and his overall grade point average went from a 2.9 (D) to a 4.8 (A+) in Spanish, and a 1.7 (F) to a 4.0 (A) in English. Most importantly though, my son learned to love his studies and got a kick out of seeing his grades soaring. It was truly eye opening to see how one lesson per week changed everything." ~ Lisa H.,Parent, California
The TutorOne Difference
As you are now finding out, TutorOne offers a wide variety of different levels, age ranges, and subjects to accommodate all individual learning styles. TutorOne is committed to the belief that every student thrives best in a positive, fun-loving, nurturing learning environment. We encourage our students to explore new ideas and engage in hands-on learning situations. TutorOne does not believe that children benefit from being confined to a class room in front of a standard curriculum all day long.
The TutorOne Difference is about creating an engaging atmosphere in which kids feel motivated to excel. The majority of TutorOne schools operate as small academies; they offer individual learning environments that allow students to interact within a group or with one-to-one tutors.
