How Do I Find A Private Specialist?
Finding the perfect match can be complicated and it’s important to research carefully. Below we’ve provided five tools that should prove especially useful in making informed decisions related to school choice. All are FREE!!!
1. SchoolNet Canada
Schoolnet was launched in 2008 under the direction of Dr. Gilda Carroll, Senior Fellow at Canadian Observatory for Policy Alternatives. Its purpose was to collect publicly released provincial reports on postsecondary institutions in every region of the country to better understand student outcomes, employment rates and costs associated with post secondary studies. Reports from the 2015/16 school years include detailed descriptions and analyses of the most recent cohorts graduating from college, university and CEGEP programs since 1985. These reports use data gathered through questionnaires administered to graduates at colleges and universities, registrars offices, employment service centres and other agencies.
If you work in a local school board or child care facility…
What does Special Education offer families?
How should I introduce my student to other people who may be unfamiliar with his/her diagnosis?
I am interested in being trained on methods used for teaching a person with developmental delays and autism spectrum disorders…
Do these programs provide services available through mainstream schools?
Where else would I find assistance?
There are four main categories under “special educational needs” and they relate to physical disability; mental health issues including anxiety disorder, depression, ADHD / ADD, conduct behavioral problem, eating problems, emotional instability, language delay, sensory processing difficulties, self-care deficits, speech related conditions, and specific psychological and cognitive disabilities associated with Autism Spectrum Disorders, Asperger Syndrome and PDDNOS. These labels represent different levels of severity depending upon whether the condition impacts communication abilities only, motor function capabilities only or both simultaneously. There are many other terms used to refer to similar experiences. For example: Pervasive Developmental Disability or ASD or the broad term PDA. Some of the following examples include: cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, fetal alcohol effects, genetic syndromes, hydrocephalus, Klinefelter’s Syndrome, mitochondrial diseases, neuromotor dysfunction, Noonan Syndrome, Prader Willi Syndrome, Rett Syndrome, Spina Bifida, Turner Syndrome, Williams Syndrome & Wilson Disease.
2. Should I hire someone who specializes in this area? If yes, should they be certified/licensed through the Department of Education?
3. How many hours of instruction per day would my child receive? Or am I better placing him/her in private school? Is private college education necessary? Does tuition vary according to location, type of disability, age, student grade level, and teacher experience?
4. Do schools offer programs specifically designed for children with autism spectrum disorder? Is it worth attending special high school programs during the mid-teen years, i.e., 12th Grade? Why is attendance at these programs important?
5. My daughter has ADHD, does she qualify for services under the provincial mental health legislation? What are important factors in determining eligibility? Who is required to provide medical assessments and therapy treatments for children with developmental disorders? Can her parents provide information concerning treatment options without seeking outside assistance?
6. As a family friend pointed out “When it comes down to it, most people who struggle financially end up having less than adequate life experiences because of being unable to afford proper schooling and development opportunities”. Would he go back to his native country where he could get a good job which pays well enough to support himself and his kids?
7. Would it benefit me if my sons received specialized training? For example, did a parent tell me about the services provided by a professional trainer named Jack at a nearby elementary school? His son was diagnosed with mild dyslexia and he learned how to read at home, then was taught basic math concepts for elementary grade levels 1–5...
8. After receiving his teaching license, he went onto teaching English in China and Japan. He earned $100 per hour working 10 hours a week as an ESL teacher.
We believe it isn’t enough to just teach people. We owe it to ourselves to show them exactly how capable they are; and how far ahead of other peers they actually could get without the proper assistance. By doing this, we hope to inspire confidence among educators, parents, and the general community alike, which allows everyone else to experience a life filled with self-expression and personal growth.
I have found that many of them suffer from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Anxiety Disorders and/or various Learning Disabilities, and some of them simply aren’t equipped mentally for typical classroom teaching methods. These children and teens don’t always fit neatly into traditional classrooms, especially since most schools lack qualified personnel to work with them effectively. They often go unnoticed due to being perceived less competent than their contemporaries, causing teachers and staff to lose faith in themselves. And the cycle continues... until they reach puberty, because after that point, their self-esteem takes another hit. For a child struggling with anxiety disorders, a single mistake during class becomes magnified tenfold once adolescence sets in and everything changes around them again. Many families of special needs children live in poverty due to high expenses associated with educating a student whose mental capacity differs significantly from his peers, yet they still manage to raise him properly despite having little financial support.
So yes, it does mean working harder than ever... but the rewards are well worth it in terms of both the positive impression made on those watching you and the long-term impact on society as a whole.

Who Should Adopt TutorOne’s Tutoring Methodology?
Every parent knows that the average public school education system has its faults, but few know that there are alternatives. Every year, parents become educated more about the effectiveness of individualizing children’s education. They understand that learning styles and learning strategies vary greatly among students and that students require additional focus and encouragement to excel, especially in subjects such as math, science, and reading. Students learn differently than adults; children absorb knowledge faster and retain it longer than adults can; and they’re less prone to procrastination. TutorOne’s comprehensive approach teaches kids to think positively, and teaches students when they don’t perform up to par.
Testimonial By A Parent Like You
"My son recently turned 15, and started taking Advanced Placement exams. He was doing quite poorly in Spanish II and English III, having scored only a 2 and 3 respectively. With one week left before he needed to take the AP test, I decided to enroll him in TutorOne Private Tutoring. His teacher had told me that he was a bright kid, but just didn’t put forth the effort required to excel. My son came home every day telling me about the amazing learning experience he was having with TutorOne. He did score a 4 on his Spanish II test, and his overall grade point average went from a 2.9 (D) to a 4.8 (A+) in Spanish, and a 1.7 (F) to a 4.0 (A) in English. Most importantly though, my son learned to love his studies and got a kick out of seeing his grades soaring. It was truly eye opening to see how one lesson per week changed everything." ~ Lisa H.,Parent, California
The TutorOne Difference
As you are now finding out, TutorOne offers a wide variety of different levels, age ranges, and subjects to accommodate all individual learning styles. What sets us apart from other programs is our commitment to educating and encouraging each student’s individuality, curiosity, and enthusiasm for learning. TutorOne is committed to the belief that every student thrives best in a positive, fun-loving, nurturing learning environment. We encourage our students to explore new ideas and engage in hands-on learning situations. TutorOne does not believe that children benefit from being confined to a class room in front of a standard curriculum all day long.
The TutorOne Difference is about creating an engaging atmosphere in which kids feel motivated to excel. The majority of TutorOne schools operate as small academies; they offer individual learning environments that allow students to interact within a group or with one-to-one tutors.
