A: Whether I’m giving lessons to someone who’s just starting out or getting ready to study abroad, my approach to teaching varies greatly depending on whether they’re working below grade level, struggling with reading comprehension and writing, or simply looking to brush up on grammar and conversation. My goal isn’t to teach anyone anything memorably, but rather inspire those around me to gain confidence in their academic abilities -- something which I believe should be made possible via personalized instruction.
My classes focus primarily in vocabulary acquisition； however, I’ll often throw in some useful cultural tips & tricks along the way whenever applicable because language proficiency without context leaves people in a foreign country feeling isolated and unprepared for everyday life.
I’ve found that most people prefer group sessions to individual lessons due to the additional support afforded through the community feel, but either is suitable for everyone as long as it fits their specific educational needs.
For many years I’ve struggled with how to find balance in both time spent studying and practicing speaking the language. As a result, I currently devote half my schedule to classwork every week with the other half reserved for practice. While this ratio sounds a bit extreme (and admittedly, it’s probably nowhere near perfect), I still manage to keep things interesting and relevant by offering multiple variations during different months, including short breaks, and introducing fun games like charades and trivia night once per semester.
