We work closely with schools across Canada and around the globe to ensure that every child who attends school receives the appropriate support required to thrive academically. Our curriculum specialists develop special education lesson plans specific to the grade level requirements of children diagnosed with conditions including ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Dyslexia, Learning Disabilities, Specific Language Impairment, Traumatic Brain Injury/Cognitive Delay and many more!
What makes us different than other companies offering one and two hour sessions online, phone coaching, Skype coaching, group coaching, emailing homework assignments, or group lessons is that no two situations are ever alike - which is why we offer tailor made solutions for parents and educators alike! Every situation requires a tailored solution with a strong focus on student development and academic achievement. As well, some kids may have multiple diagnoses requiring attention from several areas as per his/her IEP. Working with them across disciplines requires collaboration with various teachers and administrators across sectors, therefore ensuring that your child gets maximum benefit from your tutoring experience together.
How Tutor One was founded:
In 2009, after years spent educating herself in fields ranging from medicine to nutrition, Dr. Lisa M. O’Brien decided she wanted to devote her life’s work towards helping people lead happier lives through effective communication & relationship building; specifically, relationships with loved ones. While pursuing her degree in Psychology, Business Administration and Health Care Management, she worked extensively with clients across a wide spectrum of issues, from mental disorders and eating habits to physical injuries and chronic health problems. After completing her studies successfully, she began studying Applied Positive Psychology and Counseling Techniques, specializing in Emotional Intelligence Training and Mindfulness Methods.

Or perhaps, you’re already working fulltime/parttime as a special needs instructor, educator or aide in Leduc, Edmonton or surrounding areas.
Either way, we’ve got some good news, because Leduc offers both provincial and federal funding available for those wanting to work in this field. Whether you’re seeking certification through either Ministry, you’ll be able to find the program that suits you best. And since many programs offer placements across Canada, it should really only take 1+ years time to get situated after applying. As well most schools also offer grants as part of their tuition payment options once enrolled.
In addition, once certified, the government provides monthly stipends (which vary depending upon location & length of training). Depending on which ministry certifies your placement they could provide a minimum $600 per month & maximum up to around $1400 per month. 2. Show Respect. Treat special needs individuals respectfully especially teachers who teach children with ADD/ADHD. Students with Autism find having boundaries confusing; therefore showing respect helps these kids feel comfortable around other people.. Remember to always treat everyone equally including teachers. Make eye contact when speaking to autistic individuals and allow them to approach first instead of asking to join conversations because it makes them feel uncomfortable.
3. Stay Positive. Everyone deals with some type of challenge in life but try avoid becoming negative which causes problems. Instead focus on being positive, stay upbeat and remember to smile. Smile often and encourage others to smile towards you which helps make them more positively inclined towards you.
4. Do Not Talk Over Them/Disregard Their Words. While listening attentively and paying attention to details are great traits for most adults, young adult learners with autism spectrum disorder benefit greatly from hearing every detail their instructor spoke. They often lose track easily and become overwhelmed during lecture sessions with large amounts of content presented at once. You can use visuals like PowerPoint or flip charts with bullet points written down and highlighted to assist students with keeping attention. During lectures keep talking after they interrupt to help them follow along easier.
5. Follow Up After Classroom Hours. Many students go through mood swings, depression, anxiety, hyperactivity or lack of concentration due to changes in light cycles. Try scheduling a face to face meeting with students immediately afterwards.
1. Check Your Local Listings for Tutoring Services.
If your local school district offers afterschool programs, check with the teachers’ union office first. If not, ask around among other parents and friends to discover which private tutors offer services outside of your neighborhood.
2. Use Online Resources.
Check your favorite search engine like Bing, Yahoo!, Duckduckgo, AltaVista, Ask.com, AOL and Google for tutors near you. Also try sites that connect individuals seeking employment, like Monster, Career Builder, Glassdoor, Indeed and Simply Hired. These websites allow job seekers to filter and sort through available positions to identify those suited to their skill sets.
3. Find Tutoring Programs Near School Districts.
Many schools in Canada run programs to provide supplemental instruction to struggling readers during class hours or after school hours. Some districts offer tutors in English language arts, math, science or history classes. Others, however, may use specialized instructors trained in working with children with specific needs. Contact the teacher or principal in charge of the program.
4. Search For Private Lessons.
Tutoring sessions usually occur either once a week, every day or twice per week, depending on the child’s schedule. Some families prefer weekly lessons; others opt for daily sessions. Either way, be aware that some tutoring programs don’t accept multiple students simultaneously, making it necessary to contact several providers until you’re satisfied and have found a match.
5. Find A Tutor Through Friends Or Family Members Who’ve Already Been Successful.
Here are just several ways to get started helping kids:
1. Become a tutor with a specialty area of study. Whether you’re interested in Math, Language Arts, Science & Engineering, PreK/Grade School, ESL, Test Prep, Career Readiness, Life Skills or Drama & Music -- find something you’d be excited to teach and apply today.
2. Join the community! Connect with other teachers already enjoying life as part of this amazing organization and work together to improve outcomes for children living with developmental disabilities. Find fellow learners at events like Teacher’s Day, workshops and online classrooms. Plus, meet parents through Facebook groups and monthly virtual round tables. If you aren’t ready to commit 100% yet, become a volunteer teacher mentor instead of taking classes. All volunteers receive training specific to mentoring and have a direct impact on student education. Visit https://www.varsitykidsinc.org/volunteer-teacher-mentorship for details and eligibility requirements.
3. Take advantage of ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current on what’s changing in edtech and develop strategies tailored to meet those changes. Our extensive library includes dozens of webinars, conferences around the country and live sessions hosted at various sites nationwide. And all online courses are available 24/7 from anywhere, anytime. Check back often because we post new content nearly daily. New topics include developing your own personalized curriculum, writing effective lesson objectives, finding funding sources for technology purchases, managing ADHD behaviors in the classroom and much more. To learn more, visit http://eduinsights.shop.tutorone.ca/.
4. Build relationships through our unique Community Portal.
In order to understand why teaching methods for kids with special needs should be adapted differently than regular school lessons, we first have to examine these issues thoroughly.
What does’special’ mean?
According to experts like those from the International Society for Autism Research (ISAR), autism spectrum disorders affect approximately 1% of children worldwide. These conditions include autistic disorder, Asperger syndrome, pervasive development disorder -- not otherwise specified (PDD--NOS), Rett’s syndrome, childhood disintegrative disorder, among many other developmental disorders.
Children diagnosed with ASD often show some level of intellectual disability, but they usually have high levels of attentional engagement. Some people may say that children suffering from autism lack empathy, however, the truth is quite different. Many parents report having witnessed instances when their child showed great emotional attachment towards another human being. In fact, children with autism tend to develop strong bonds between themselves and their peers and adults alike. However, because of their inability to express themselves verbally, they may find it difficult to communicate effectively. Thus, they rely mostly upon nonverbal cues to connect emotionally with other individuals.
Why is this issue relevant today? The answer lies in statistics, namely the rising rate of cases involving special educational needs and/or mental health problems. According to recent studies conducted by researchers around Canada, there was an overall increase between 2001 and 2017 in both the incidence and prevalence rates of special needs across Canadian schools. For example, the study published by the Fraser Institute found that in 2011, 1.9 million Canadians aged five years old and older suffered from autism spectrum disorders; meanwhile, according to Statistics Canada, the numbers grew to 2.8 million in 2016.
We understand that every student learns differently. As a result, we tailor our curriculum to suit the unique strengths, interests, and academic abilities of each student. Each lesson incorporates fun games, interactive materials, and hands-on exercises. All sessions include homework assignments designed to reinforce concepts learned during class.
We understand just how overwhelming life can become when life gets busy. So with your permission, I am going to take some time today to explain exactly why and how we as tutor professionals operate. I hope my perspective will help educate parents about the value of hiring a professional tutor and the many ways we work together as partners to provide children with critical resources during this challenging time in their lives….

Who Should Adopt TutorOne’s Tutoring Methodology?
Every parent knows that the average public school education system has its faults, but few know that there are alternatives. Every year, parents become educated more about the effectiveness of individualizing children’s education. They understand that learning styles and learning strategies vary greatly among students and that students require additional focus and encouragement to excel, especially in subjects such as math, science, and reading. Students learn differently than adults; children absorb knowledge faster and retain it longer than adults can; and they’re less prone to procrastination. TutorOne’s comprehensive approach teaches kids to think positively, and teaches students when they don’t perform up to par.
Testimonial By A Parent Like You
"My son recently turned 15, and started taking Advanced Placement exams. He was doing quite poorly in Spanish II and English III, having scored only a 2 and 3 respectively. With one week left before he needed to take the AP test, I decided to enroll him in TutorOne Private Tutoring. His teacher had told me that he was a bright kid, but just didn’t put forth the effort required to excel. My son came home every day telling me about the amazing learning experience he was having with TutorOne. He did score a 4 on his Spanish II test, and his overall grade point average went from a 2.9 (D) to a 4.8 (A+) in Spanish, and a 1.7 (F) to a 4.0 (A) in English. Most importantly though, my son learned to love his studies and got a kick out of seeing his grades soaring. It was truly eye opening to see how one lesson per week changed everything." ~ Lisa H.,Parent, California
The TutorOne Difference
As you are now finding out, TutorOne offers a wide variety of different levels, age ranges, and subjects to accommodate all individual learning styles. What sets us apart from other programs is our commitment to educating and encouraging each student’s individuality, curiosity, and enthusiasm for learning. TutorOne is committed to the belief that every student thrives best in a positive, fun-loving, nurturing learning environment. We encourage our students to explore new ideas and engage in hands-on learning situations. TutorOne does not believe that children benefit from being confined to a class room in front of a standard curriculum all day long.
The TutorOne Difference is about creating an engaging atmosphere in which kids feel motivated to excel. The majority of TutorOne schools operate as small academies; they offer individual learning environments that allow students to interact within a group or with one-to-one tutors.
