Special Needs Tutoring Mission FAQs
In this section of TutorOne, I would like to introduce you to some special services available through our platform which include: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Dyslexia, Visual Impairment, Speech Therapy, Educational Assessment/Testing Services, Learning Disorders & ADHD Support.
All these different kinds of disabilities are extremely common among school age children; however, they tend to manifest differently in every child. As well as having physical differences, many children who live with ASD struggle academically because of language difficulties, poor memory retention and other issues related to brain development. If your little ones struggles with schoolwork, it could be due to lack of motivation or attention. Or perhaps he / she simply needs extra practice. No matter what the cause may be, it’s good to find ways to improve his focus and concentration during class sessions.
So why should anyone care about this? Well, first of all, I’d like to tell you why you shouldn’t be surprised about us being passionate about our work in this area.
When we started our business we wanted to offer something that was different from the other companies we knew of doing online courses. And when people say “different” to me, I usually ask them what exactly they mean by it. If they said they meant unique to them then that’s great! But what I heard most often was that they felt like their local company wasn’t “special”. They weren’t able to find anything else locally to cater to their specific needs and that made them feel left behind.
I’m glad to report back to you, dear reader, that I’ve found my niche and we specialize exclusively in serving those who have disabilities. It was actually a bit of luck that led us here. When the owner of our company was trying to hire someone full stack developer, he had his heart broken after a few failed interviews. He ended up hiring a friend instead of someone who could have helped him get a better fit. After hearing that story, I decided it would only hurt him further if he hired somebody who couldn’t be happy in their job. So, when he came knocking on my door asking what I thought my ideal candidate looked like, I immediately suggested to him that it wouldn’t be fair to him to go through another interview process without knowing if they could be truly happy and satisfied with the position.
So, we went ahead and created a website, filled it with content, got some amazing teachers onboard, and launched an awesome program called “Learn Together”.
Many who decide to teach come away disappointed when their first experience leaves them wishing they had chosen another path. When I was 22 years old, my life started going downhill following graduation. A sudden realization struck me that perhaps this wasn’t meant for be yet. My mother became sicker, my family changed jobs several times, and things quickly went south.
After working in sales for barely six months, I realized the only thing I actually wanted to talk about every day was education. So, I quit that job and enrolled myself into university studying Computer Engineering. But soon enough, I found myself living paycheck to paycheck. After struggling to pay for rent, food, bills, phone bill, school tuition, books and everything else; it finally dawned upon me that perhaps being creative isn’t just a hobby—it truly feels like work!
I then began exploring various online courses on Udemy. By combining lessons learned from friends and random professors alike together, I came across a post talking about how amazing it would be to learn French. If anything, I’m glad I followed that path because it led me to a friend who helped me find out about a placement program offered by an organization named “Mission Immersion”. Before long, I was traveling across Canada meeting kids facing adversity. Not knowing exactly what to expect, I met families who were dealing with divorce, illness, poverty and mental health issues. I helped prepare meals, played games, cleaned houses and did laundry alongside these inspiring individuals.
While it is important for everyone involved (including the family) to be supported during this crucial period, finding adequate employment often proves tough. Often times, special education staff are unable to provide accurate information regarding job opportunities because the vast majority of vacancies listed online fall short of meeting someone’s unique qualifications and requirements. As a result, many people end up applying for positions they believe could accommodate their capabilities, only to realize after submitting applications, they weren’t selected. Some employers have policies requiring hiring employees with certain levels of disability, therefore leaving qualified candidates no choice but to stick with jobs lacking supportive accommodations. A lack of accessible employment options combined with inadequate income leads to frustration among caregivers and those who take care of them. Ultimately, these barriers become sources of stress for both sides. If you’re interested in joining a high performing company in Mission, British Columbia that values inclusion and diversity, check out our latest openings today. We’d love to talk to you soon.
Here are some tips that we hope will benefit those who find themselves in this situation, including you.
1.) Be proactive
If you notice signs like lack of interest towards schoolwork; difficulty focusing; or frequent temper tantrums, you should take action immediately. Don’t wait until your son/daughter hits puberty; they need to be taught differently than their peers. As soon as a parent sees these traits develop in their child, they must seek assistance. If they fail to act early enough, then the problem could become far worse down the line.
2.) Seek support from teachers
Don’t hesitate to reach out to your school counselor or principal to get help. If you see something suspicious, ask questions or bring it to someone else’s attention. Teachers are trained professionals and should be able to spot warning signs in children who struggle academically. They will often be happy to offer suggestions on ways to better assist your child, whether through extra homework hours or additional assistance for test prep.
3.) Consider private schools
While public and charter schools provide excellent services, some kids just thrive when enrolled elsewhere. In fact, there’s evidence suggesting that special needs students who attend private schools score higher on standardized tests. It seems as though private schools are equipped to address issues that arise from their unique educational philosophy. For example, some private schools use behavior therapy techniques in order to improve student focus and reduce disruptive tendencies. Other special needs students enjoy attending special classes that cater solely to their individual needs.
This article was first published around the year 2000, back when computers had just become commonplace. Back then, many schools used word processors where typing speed played a big part in academic achievement; however students suffering from dyslexia found themselves struggling to keep pace with their peers. Today things are different, thankfully. Technology has advanced immensely since those days and computer programs have come along way from typewriters.
Thanks to technology today dyslexic children are able to work efficiently with word processing software and the internet, giving them greater opportunities on a global scale. These technological advancements allow kids to learn more effectively with less stress. However, that’s not enough—we still have a long road ahead of us until every child receives equal treatment when dealing with dyslexia.
If you’re considering joining our mission in 2020, we recommend getting tested. Not only does it provide you with valuable information regarding your strengths and areas needing improvement, but it can potentially save hundreds of dollars down the line through improved communication and better grade point averages due to increased focus.
What happens next depends entirely upon whether or not you require accommodations. But regardless of the outcome, once you’ve taken care of business with testing you’ll find yourself working with a dedicated specialist who understands exactly how you struggle during certain periods of study. And they’ll take action immediately to eliminate barriers that affect your ability to excel academically and socially.

In 2020, many people started having conversations around these topics online in earnest, which led to realizations of just how large this problem was– including ours at Tutor1! We realized we weren’t doing enough to actually tackle it head-on; but rather trying to solve smaller problems along the way without making systemic changes to solve big ones.
This meant we had huge gaps in knowledge ourselves: whether it be knowing how to find great teachers for my son or better ways to integrate tech tools into his daily routine. So we decided that instead of waiting for someone else to come forward or wait until 2020 rolled back before we did something, we’d start building relationships with local schools in order to get a jumpstart on solutions ASAP. As time went on, we learned more about the specifics of each school district and realized it would take lots of different strategies to really make a difference. And since we couldn’t be everywhere at once to implement those tactics in person, we began searching the web to see who could help us scale faster while still keeping costs down.
And boy, did we find plenty!

Who Should Adopt TutorOne’s Tutoring Methodology?
Every parent knows that the average public school education system has its faults, but few know that there are alternatives. Every year, parents become educated more about the effectiveness of individualizing children’s education. They understand that learning styles and learning strategies vary greatly among students and that students require additional focus and encouragement to excel, especially in subjects such as math, science, and reading. Students learn differently than adults; children absorb knowledge faster and retain it longer than adults can; and they’re less prone to procrastination. TutorOne’s comprehensive approach teaches kids to think positively, and teaches students when they don’t perform up to par.
Testimonial By A Parent Like You
"My son recently turned 15, and started taking Advanced Placement exams. He was doing quite poorly in Spanish II and English III, having scored only a 2 and 3 respectively. With one week left before he needed to take the AP test, I decided to enroll him in TutorOne Private Tutoring. His teacher had told me that he was a bright kid, but just didn’t put forth the effort required to excel. My son came home every day telling me about the amazing learning experience he was having with TutorOne. He did score a 4 on his Spanish II test, and his overall grade point average went from a 2.9 (D) to a 4.8 (A+) in Spanish, and a 1.7 (F) to a 4.0 (A) in English. Most importantly though, my son learned to love his studies and got a kick out of seeing his grades soaring. It was truly eye opening to see how one lesson per week changed everything." ~ Lisa H.,Parent, California
The TutorOne Difference
As you are now finding out, TutorOne offers a wide variety of different levels, age ranges, and subjects to accommodate all individual learning styles. TutorOne is committed to the belief that every student thrives best in a positive, fun-loving, nurturing learning environment. We encourage our students to explore new ideas and engage in hands-on learning situations. TutorOne does not believe that children benefit from being confined to a class room in front of a standard curriculum all day long.
The TutorOne Difference is about creating an engaging atmosphere in which kids feel motivated to excel. The majority of TutorOne schools operate as small academies; they offer individual learning environments that allow students to interact within a group or with one-to-one tutors.
