Is Special Education considered mandatory education?

Why should I consider Special Education services outside school?
5 Ideas To Handle Students With Special Needs
1- Use The Right Assessment Tool For Your Student
Assessment tools and other assessment techniques used in special education vary depending upon whether a student needs academic intervention versus behavioural management and/or medical attention. If a child requires medication, then they would be assessed through a separate protocol than those who do not receive medications. Therefore, it is critical that special educators understand which types of assessments and interventions they use. They must assess each child to determine his/her areas of deficit and strengths. An appropriate diagnosis tool that matches this information helps identify specific strategies that target student weaknesses and supports positive growth.
2- Educate Staff About Different Kinds Of Intervention Strategies For Each Type Of Issue
Each issue is different; therefore, teachers must understand that some issues cannot be fixed without professional guidance. Some issues are more urgent and require immediate action whereas others are less pressing but still deserve proper attention during class sessions. Teachers must take steps that prevent these situations from happening again. As soon as problems occur, teachers need to address the problem immediately rather than waiting on someone else. The longer a situation goes unaddressed, the worse things get for both parties involved. Therefore, having a comprehensive understanding of each type of issue in order to properly implement solutions is crucial..
3- Create A Systematic Approach To Managing Classroom Behavioural Problems
Classroom behaviour is something many children experience every day. However, when a child exhibits challenging behaviours that disrupt classroom functioning, teachers must first determine why the behaviour occurs. Then, they must figure out what causes the problematic activity and find creative ways to solve the issue without resorting to punishment. When addressing disruptive behaviour, teachers should focus primarily on teaching the cause instead of solely focusing on punishing the symptom.

I always try to get the kids involved during lessons so that they feel like part of the lesson. If possible, try having some small games or puzzles to pass the time. Also keep in mind that you should NEVER talk down to a student or act annoyed if he/she gets upset. Instead, you must take responsibility for his/her behavior and calmly explain why he/she got angry. Then, ask him/ her to apologize for acting rudely and offer another choice. Once again, this does NOT mean giving up and leaving the classroom; rather, it simply gives the student the freedom to express himself/herself without feeling judged.
If your student becomes aggressive towards you, then you can take advantage of this fact. Tell the class to stop doing whatever activity or playtime they are currently engaged in so that they can focus on listening to you instead. Then, explain that if they continue to behave inappropriately and become angry with you, you will end class early and leave immediately.
The next step is to calmly walk away from the situation, but do so quickly. Do NOT stay around and argue with your student. He/ she will only escalate things. Walk away, take control of your emotions, and come back once everything calms down.
Remember, it’s okay to feel frustrated sometimes, especially when dealing with challenging behaviors. But if you’re able to remain composed and show empathy, chances are good that the child will respect and value you more than someone who acts unprofessional.

Here’s some additional information regarding the various special needs programs offered in Dollard-des Ormeaux:
• Autism Program
Students who struggle in terms of verbal communication and/or attention deficit disorder often find themselves falling through the cracks, unable to receive services they deserve because of these learning differences. Tutoring sessions provide a comfortable environment in which children with autism spectrum disorders can feel confident knowing someone understands them better than anyone else.
Students enrolled in this program meet with tutors once per week after class hours using Zoom video conferencing technology. Lessons focus primarily on learning strategies and academic concepts related to the individual student’s specific strengths & weaknesses. Teachers monitor daily lessons via Skype. For those interested parents should contact the school to request a schedule outlining lesson times.
• Dyslexia Program:
This educational support service offers instruction in core literacy areas including phonics, fluency and vocabulary. During weekly meetings, staff members assess each child’s abilities, identify his or her level of development and work towards achieving goals determined by the parent(s). Children in Grade 1 follow the same curriculum as typically developing peers; however in Grades 2 and 3 the teachers design differentiated curricula according to students’ ability levels and specific learning challenges. They use specialized software to track learning gains, helping to ensure a steady pace of growth. Parents are invited to attend sessions whenever possible so that they remain informed about their child’s progression.
This service gives people living in this area the opportunity to get online tutoring assistance on subjects like math, English and other areas at no cost whatsoever through the use of various software packages available. These programs provide tutors, instructors, mentors or anyone else who wants to lend some support to children, teens, adults and seniors with specific educational needs.
In short, they are specialized schools which teach children and teenagers aged 3–19 years to develop skills and knowledge that lead to academic excellence. They are usually located near high school buildings, but they can be found anywhere there are young kids.
If you are having trouble understanding why these services exist, take note of the statistics: according to Statistics Canada census figures released in 2016, 1 in 10 Canadians under 14 suffer from developmental disorders — meaning mental health issues such as ADD/ADHD and mental retardation as well as physical ones such as cerebral palsy and Down syndrome.
According to Health Canada’s Canadian Mortality Database, approximately 4% of deaths in Canada involve individuals diagnosed with intellectual disability, and another 2.5% include persons who receive supports for cognitive disabilities.
**Please note that TutorOne services are not available in some areas (ie Greater Toronto Area [GTA]). However, I am happy to assist families living outside those regions. Contact me and I’ll help you find a local provider near you!!! **
We specialize in developing unique programs tailored to meet special needs. For instance, we teach Spanish to ESL immigrants; dyslexic readers; individuals struggling with ADD / ADHD; visual impairment; people suffering post stroke language loss; nonverbal learners among other populations. If you would like to know more about these specific issues, please visit www.tuotonline.org.
At TutorOne Canada, we employ only certified educators who possess exceptional teaching experience and expertise. Each teacher undergoes thorough background checks prior to employment. All instructors hold valid professional certificates issued by recognized authorities in their field. These include but are not limited to: OTRC, COSEC, LINCES, TESDA, ECCEI...etc.
However, this benefit is rarely shared with families across Canada, particularly in smaller communities like Dollard Des Ormes. For most parents, getting an individualized program designed just for their child is an unrealistic expectation given the high cost involved. While there are some programs available to assist in educating youngsters with certain conditions, many people cannot afford to pay for tuition fees every day, especially if their child requires extra therapy sessions to achieve full potential. So the question becomes why should anyone bother trying to find a private autism teacher for themselves or their child? We’ll answer that below...
TutorOne provides teachers with a platform that enables them connect to thousands of students around the globe via webcam chat and video conferencing services. Parents and guardians can see exactly what their child is doing inside their classrooms at home and feel secure knowing their children are being taught properly. Students and parents alike love seeing tutors online since it lets everyone stay connected without having to leave home. Additionally, many schools and institutions can’t accommodate special needs teaching staff in person due to size restrictions and space limitations. Tutor One addresses both issues by delivering personalized lessons wherever a student lives. Teachers can teach anywhere including homes and offices while remaining in communication through Skype.
As mentioned earlier, Tutor 1 works with thousands of educators worldwide; however, we are still working towards reaching everyone who wants to become part of the Tutor1 community.
Doing more than just teach, I am able to get my students excited about reading and writing. Our relationship goes beyond teaching; they learn life-long habits through weekly meetings. As part of this program, I work with these children every day after school hours during regular lesson times. My sessions are structured differently since this population needs extra patience which often takes longer periods for me to understand the material taught. However, with a lot of effort put towards understanding, we come together. They show excitement and interest with subjects like math, language arts, science, history, art & music. At first, we struggled to find a common ground but after a while we found ourselves bonding as peers because of different personalities and unique perspectives. With each meeting we become closer, we begin sharing knowledge and experience to develop lifelong friendships and relationships. We discover talents such as drawing, singing, dancing, cooking and many other things. Most importantly, they’d be introduced to a wide range of topics ranging from literature, technology, sports and health. These skills would allow them to participate in extracurricular activities, volunteerism, community service, leadership roles and even competitive events and competitions. Not only does this approach improve academic achievement, but it builds confidence and gives them self esteem. When children feel accepted and valued for who they are, then they are motivated to try harder. Through positive reinforcement they gain motivation and enthusiasm leading to better performance levels. For instance, a child who struggles academically receives support to continue doing his homework. A child who excels gets acknowledgement for his strengths. Another advantage of having special classes for this demographic is that students receive extra attention and encouragement. Teachers take note of each student individually instead of concentrating on groups making it easier to differentiate instruction. Students develop a sense of belonging and independence allowing them to flourish socially. Children of special needs are given the proper tools and guidance enabling them to reach high expectations.
Finding the perfect educational provider becomes extremely urgent. As mentioned earlier, some parents believe that hiring somebody who does not understand the unique circumstances of their child’s condition and struggles could lead to poor outcomes. On top of the fact that parents face high financial burdens in supporting their kids’ education, it turns out that teachers have little time left to learn about different disorders and conditions. For these reasons, the majority of professionals have become convinced that they lack enough expertise on dealing with children with special needs. Consequently, they decide to call on the assistance of special needs tutors, whom experts agree offer outstanding solutions to meet the needs of children diagnosed with specific intellectual difficulties.
In case you decided to hire professional tutors, please note that there are several things to consider prior to getting started, including choosing which type of service to opt for. While there are companies offering online tutoring services, others provide classroom sessions. Some prefer working individually with a few clients whereas others organize group meetings with dozens of families simultaneously. Still other providers specialize in individualized instruction via Skype and phone calls.

Who Should Adopt TutorOne’s Tutoring Methodology?
Every parent knows that the average public school education system has its faults, but few know that there are alternatives. Every year, parents become educated more about the effectiveness of individualizing children’s education. They understand that learning styles and learning strategies vary greatly among students and that students require additional focus and encouragement to excel, especially in subjects such as math, science, and reading. Students learn differently than adults; children absorb knowledge faster and retain it longer than adults can; and they’re less prone to procrastination. TutorOne’s comprehensive approach teaches kids to think positively, and teaches students when they don’t perform up to par.
Testimonial By A Parent Like You
"My son recently turned 15, and started taking Advanced Placement exams. He was doing quite poorly in Spanish II and English III, having scored only a 2 and 3 respectively. With one week left before he needed to take the AP test, I decided to enroll him in TutorOne Private Tutoring. His teacher had told me that he was a bright kid, but just didn’t put forth the effort required to excel. My son came home every day telling me about the amazing learning experience he was having with TutorOne. He did score a 4 on his Spanish II test, and his overall grade point average went from a 2.9 (D) to a 4.8 (A+) in Spanish, and a 1.7 (F) to a 4.0 (A) in English. Most importantly though, my son learned to love his studies and got a kick out of seeing his grades soaring. It was truly eye opening to see how one lesson per week changed everything." ~ Lisa H.,Parent, California
The TutorOne Difference
As you are now finding out, TutorOne offers a wide variety of different levels, age ranges, and subjects to accommodate all individual learning styles. What sets us apart from other programs is our commitment to educating and encouraging each student’s individuality, curiosity, and enthusiasm for learning. TutorOne is committed to the belief that every student thrives best in a positive, fun-loving, nurturing learning environment. We encourage our students to explore new ideas and engage in hands-on learning situations. TutorOne does not believe that children benefit from being confined to a class room in front of a standard curriculum all day long.
The TutorOne Difference is about creating an engaging atmosphere in which kids feel motivated to excel. The majority of TutorOne schools operate as small academies; they offer individual learning environments that allow students to interact within a group or with one-to-one tutors.
