Special Needs Tutoring Kelowna FAQs
Special ed teachers work with children who struggle academically due to various disabilities like ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Anxiety & Depression, Speech/Language Impairment, Dyslexia, Learning Difficulties, Developmental Disabilities, Cerebral Palsy, Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Skills Issues, Intellectual Disability, Asperger Syndrome, Fetal Alcohol Effects and many other disorders. They play a crucial role in helping these kids achieve high school graduation rates and lead productive lives after that.
They teach strategies for overcoming difficulties they encounter everyday. Some of those methods include reading, writing and math programs to improve academic levels. These classes usually involve both classroom discussion and individual lessons.

“If you’re going to get into business, forget everything else but getting started.” --Mark Twain
I was lucky enough to meet Bill Gates back around 2004 when he came to speak at the University Club in Seattle, WA. He sat down with our CEO Larry King shortly after his speech about his book “Business @ School,” and answered dozens of great question that had all been submitted beforehand. This interview was published in Forbes magazine shortly afterwards under “Best Of...” articles, and went well beyond anything we’d ever seen as part of a regular publication like that at the time.
For example, consider taking the following steps to ensure you get started successfully.... 1. Meet and greet
In regards to meeting children with special needs first thing most providers will recommend is setting up a regular scheduled appointment. Children with autism often require an element of routine and structure otherwise they find themselves overwhelmed and anxious. So be mindful and respectful with scheduling a regularly scheduled appointment.
If there’s anything specific concerning his/her medical history then ask upfront about it. For instance if he uses hearing aids please ask him which type, and whether he prefers loud sounds or softer ones..... 2. Have some fun together
This could mean going outside and playing sports together or something else entirely. Having fun with children who aren’t typically engaged in other types of play may seem like work but if you’ve got their interest you’ll soon find yourself enjoying it. 3. Have an idea in mind with whom and what to talk to
When considering engaging children with special needs your brain should begin working overtime. Ask questions, listen carefully and try to understand why they react certain ways. 4. Don’t underestimate the power of eye contact
I cannot emphasize just how important this point is when dealing with people with Autism, ADHD, Asperger syndrome, PDD-NOS and related disorders. These individuals tend to lose track of eye contact and therefore when interacting with them it’s imperative that you maintain constant eye contact. Remember that a person without visual cues isn’t able to tell what another individual is thinking nor feeling unless said individual chooses to communicate with someone. 5.
So today I will be sharing with you information about learning disabilities such as ADHD, dyslexia, anxiety disorders, depression, PTSD, OCD, Aspergers Syndrome, sensory processing disorder, ADD/ADHD and other cognitive difficulties that many children experience in school. But first I’d better explain why I decided to become a specialist in these areas....

In my research I found several opportunities available locally including the following:
Kelowna School District Board’s Education Support Services program;
NuTech Learning Centre offers various programs depending on the child’s developmental profile, academic ability and interest levels.
For those living further away from other provinces, Alberta has become known globally amongst Canadians & International families for quality Special Needs Educational options. We use the same language across Canada through the CECLAS system which ensures consistency for all students regardless of location across Canada. Additionally there are other government agencies around BC offering similar programs and supports to school boards and individual centres as well. For example the Ministry of Children and Family Development runs Early Intervention Programs under the Community Supports Program (CSP). It provides assessment information, intervention planning and follow-up support to parents and professionals working with children and youth who experience early childhood disability or autism spectrum disorder. Its purpose is to provide ongoing family services focusing on development rather than rehabilitation. It consists of local hubs and regional offices. Regional Hubs consist of multidisciplinary teams made of health care providers, educators, therapists, case managers and homecare workers. They work together toward effective community practice models and evidence-based research projects. Their services include early identification, diagnostic screening/assessment, early interventions supporting children from birth through eight years of age.
Some regions of B.C. have developed partnerships called Parent Resource Centers which exist around the province.

Are you ready for your first day at work tomorrow morning? Here are some tips to get you started:
1. Make a bold impression. When meeting someone for the first time, be confident, professional, and prepared—and stand out because of it. Use business cards and email addresses that reflect who you are. Write down your phone numbers and use mobile apps that allow you to easily send personal messages during business hours. Be mindful of body language. Slouching or fidgety behavior indicates lack of self-confidence. Practice eye contact whenever possible. And smile! No matter whether you’re smiling because something made you laugh, excited about a conversation topic, or genuinely happy, showing genuine interest in other people shows respect. Don’t underestimate the impact of small gestures. Try these four strategies to ensure that your first introduction goes smoothly.

This post is for my parents, my grandparents, my aunties and uncles, siblings, cousins, friends, neighbors and anyone who feels like they can relate to this situation.
However, research shows that these kids often excel academically. They have highly developed problem solving abilities which enable them focus on certain areas of study. For example some kids who suffer poor hearing develop keen interest in music; whereas another group of special needs child develops great powers of observation due to their visual impairment
Children diagnosed with Autism have high rates of mental illness including anxiety disorders. They tend to thrive when given attention and respect but when it comes to being disciplined they usually feel inadequate and frustrated at times. Asking questions is something many autistic kids love doing; however most teachers avoid asking this question for fear of triggering symptoms.
Another aspect that makes teachers dislike working with Autistic kids is the fact that autism causes some of them to behave unpredictably making regular lesson planning almost impossible. However, for those who master self control can become amazing learners able to concentrate on the content taught during lessons hours after hour. When teaching in groups, autism helps kids understand concepts better through interaction and teamwork. Most educators fail to recognise that most autistics are highly intelligent individuals, simply trapped in a dysfunctional classroom environment unable to realise their true potential due to lack of understanding, empathy and basic human kindness.
How to deal with specialneeds children during the teaching process? We encourage teachers and parents alike by sharing useful strategies below.1. Make eye contact with your student whenever possible2. Ask good questions3. Give positive reinforcement4. Use play to teach5. Create opportunities for your kid to interact with friends
6. Praise every little achievement7. Don’t worry about correcting mistakes8. Give lots of hugs9. Find ways to engage your student’s sense of humor10. Be patient11. Always remember that special talents come first12. Remember that “all children can learn“13. Do everything in your power to help kids enjoy school14. Have fun15.

Who Should Adopt TutorOne’s Tutoring Methodology?
Every parent knows that the average public school education system has its faults, but few know that there are alternatives. Every year, parents become educated more about the effectiveness of individualizing children’s education. They understand that learning styles and learning strategies vary greatly among students and that students require additional focus and encouragement to excel, especially in subjects such as math, science, and reading. Students learn differently than adults; children absorb knowledge faster and retain it longer than adults can; and they’re less prone to procrastination. TutorOne’s comprehensive approach teaches kids to think positively, and teaches students when they don’t perform up to par.
Testimonial By A Parent Like You
"My son recently turned 15, and started taking Advanced Placement exams. He was doing quite poorly in Spanish II and English III, having scored only a 2 and 3 respectively. With one week left before he needed to take the AP test, I decided to enroll him in TutorOne Private Tutoring. His teacher had told me that he was a bright kid, but just didn’t put forth the effort required to excel. My son came home every day telling me about the amazing learning experience he was having with TutorOne. He did score a 4 on his Spanish II test, and his overall grade point average went from a 2.9 (D) to a 4.8 (A+) in Spanish, and a 1.7 (F) to a 4.0 (A) in English. Most importantly though, my son learned to love his studies and got a kick out of seeing his grades soaring. It was truly eye opening to see how one lesson per week changed everything." ~ Lisa H.,Parent, California
The TutorOne Difference
As you are now finding out, TutorOne offers a wide variety of different levels, age ranges, and subjects to accommodate all individual learning styles. TutorOne is committed to the belief that every student thrives best in a positive, fun-loving, nurturing learning environment. We encourage our students to explore new ideas and engage in hands-on learning situations. TutorOne does not believe that children benefit from being confined to a class room in front of a standard curriculum all day long.
The TutorOne Difference is about creating an engaging atmosphere in which kids feel motivated to excel. The majority of TutorOne schools operate as small academies; they offer individual learning environments that allow students to interact within a group or with one-to-one tutors.
